My Journey

Hi, I’m Paul Bonasera, a graphic designer, event curator, and DJ based in Columbus, Ohio. My journey into design has been shaped by a lifelong passion for creativity, adaptability, and visual storytelling.

I re-discovered design while building my DJ career and curating events like HIPS, one of Columbus’s most popular monthly dance parties. Designing flyers and promotional materials for my events revealed a natural talent for visual communication and sparked my love for graphic design.

When the pandemic put my event career on hold, I pivoted to design full-time, honing my skills through formal education and freelance projects. Since then, I’ve worked on branding and visual identities for a range of clients, including Nova Salon & Head Spa and Juana Events, and I recently held a Junior Designer role with One Hospitality, contributing to some of Columbus’s top restaurants and bars.

What drives me as a designer is the challenge of bringing ideas to life in meaningful, visually compelling ways. My background in music and events gives me a fresh perspective on creativity, collaboration, and standing out in crowded spaces.

WORK EXPERIENCE

2024 - 2025

One Hospitality (Columbus, Ohio)

Junior Designer

Worked directly under the Creative Director/Senior Designer and helped with designing and printing any graphics they needed. From posters, social media posts, screen animations for the bars and restaurants, menus, and more. I was a productive contributor in team driven projects as well as working independently on multiple tasks with strict deadlines.

2021 - 2025

Freelance

Graphic Designer

Began freelancing in 2021, building on years of experience creating graphics and branding for personal projects and curated DJ events. Since then, I’ve collaborated with clients on various design projects, focusing on delivering creative and cohesive visual solutions. Select work is showcased in the portfolio section of this site.

Full Sail University

Bachelor's in Graphic Design

Currently taking classes online through Full Sail University. It is a 4 year degree that is done in 2 years and I have about 6 months left. I already was fairly well versed in design, but I am glad I am doing it because it has taught me a lot and is helping set me up for success going forward in my career as a graphic designer.

Ohio University

Bachelor's of Science - Recreation Management

Attended Ohio University, earning a degree in Recreation Management, which nurtured my creativity and problem-solving abilities. The program helped me develop leadership, risk management, and team-building skills, valuable tools that now inform my approach to collaborative design projects and crafting thoughtful, user-focused solutions.
